Cine Club is back in business after ALCINE
Cine Club's programming returns after its obligatory annual rest for the Alcalá de Henares / Comunidad de Madrid Film Festival. And it's back to the standard weekly screenings with barely enough time to catch its breath. Longer films than those in ALCINE's showcase, but which bring a similar touch of distinction to our screens, selected as they are by employing non-commercial criteria.

The organization has scheduled the screening of two feature films true to the basic tenets of the film club for the second fortnight of November. The first film to be shown at the Teatro Salón Cervantes (TSC) will be a production divided between Chile, Argentina, Spain and France. The 'Good Life' won the best Spanish language film award at the 2008 Goya awards. It is a drama describing four parallel lives led in Santiago de Chile.

Andrés Wood directs this ensemble piece with an urban background that takes the pulse of the lives of four people, each burdened with their own dreams and frustrations. 'The Good Life' will be screened on Wednesday the 18th and Thursday the 19th of November at the TSC. (18:30 and 21:00 on both days).

The Cine Club will then move from Chile to the border between Canada and the United States. 'Frozen River' is a drama set around the topic of immigration written and directed by Courtney Hunt. It won awards at the Sundance Festival and received two nominations for the 2008 Oscars (best leading actress and best script).

The star of 'Frozen River' is Ray Eddy, a woman whose stability comes unstuck when her husband leaves her. When she finds herself broke, alone and with children to care for, she takes a life-changing decision after meeting Lily, a Mohawk girl who works taking immigrants illegally across the Saint Lawrence River.

Our programme of Independent Cinema bids farewell to November on the 25th and 26th (18:30 and 21:00) at the TSC, in this our shortest month of the year, the month of ALCINE.
