ALCINE40 opens its doors

ALCINE40 opens its doors
ALCINE is raring to go. The Alcalá de Henares / Comunidad de Madrid International Film Festival is getting ready to celebrate a very special date. We are reaching the big four-oh; four decades in the vanguard of the best cinema from our country and around the world. The dates of the next ALCINE have now been set, from the 5th to the 13th of November 2010. We are just awaiting the most important part of all. The festival is on the lookout for participants, the natural heirs to previous winners. That is why the deadlines have now been set for participation in two of the cornerstones of the fortieth festival, the National Competition and the European Competition. And at the same time, those interested in taking part in the second ShortLatino can also complete their application.

The registration process for two of the three competitive sections – the exception being Open Screen for New Directors – is now up and running. The deadline for participation in the European Competition is the 16th of July. This section is open to EU member countries, Iceland, Norway and Switzerland. Short films with majority Spanish production and Spanish direction can only be entered in the National Competition. In order to formalize the registration, you must enter www.alcine.org, since the form can now be completed and the corresponding film work sent 'on line'.

When all the material has been received, a jury will decide which short films participate in ALCINE40. One requirement is that they are no more than 30 minutes long. The festival awards four prizes, three prizes worth 6,000, 4,000 and 2,000 euros each, and a fourth, which is the Audience Award.

The registration can be made in the same way for the national competition. In this section, the short films can be no more than one hour long and must have majority Spanish production and a Spanish director. The deadline for the reception of the material required by the organization is the 1st of September. ALCINE awards 16 prizes in this section, worth a total of 28,200 euros.

Second ShortLatino
For the second year in a row, ALCINE40 is holding the European and Latin American short film market, to be known once again as ShortLatino, a pioneering initiative taking place from the 6th to the 8th of November. Screening rooms, professional meetings open for debate, presentations linked to the marketing, distribution and promotion of short films and the publication of a catalogue will all be included in this section. In order to participate, you must have a short film produced in 2009 or 2010, which can be sent 'on line' before the 1st of October at www.alcine.org.
