The Film Festival circuit has enjoyed a surprising boom over the last few years. New events are sharing the limelight with existing ones obliged to nurture their
individual strengths without forgetting
development.
ALCINE, the
Alcalá de Henares/Comunidad de Madrid Film Festival returns with a two-fold objective: to foster its internationalization and to further strengthen its existing acclaimed sections.
The European Short Film Competition came to life twelve months ago and now takes on a definitive role emerging as the third major competitive section. Alongside the
National Competition, the cornerstone of the Festival and
Open Screen for New Directors, a reflection of the new crop of debut works.
For nine days the work entering for competition coexists with
parallel activities included in
ALCINE37's programme. The Festival will take us off to
Ireland for the
'Short's Island' section. On Friday the 16th of November Alcalá will have an Irish feel about it. Screenings, concerts and dark beer will take over a city full of shamrocks and in party mood.
Toys will come to life in the shorts included in the
'Toy Story' section.
'Cutting Close to the Bone' will raise its voice in the struggle against intolerance.
'A Thousand Formats' will champion the potential of the Latin American film industry.
'Contemporary Voices' will cast its eyes over the latest in Spanish film, and
'Sónica07' will provide the festival with its very own soundtrack.
ALCINE has made a commitment to
heterogeneity. Wide ranging audiences have wide ranging tastes, needs and individual concerns. The
'Cinema and Kids',
'Not Intended for Grown-ups' and
'Movies 4 Teens' sections aim to reach out to audience groups sometimes ignored by the film industry.
From the 9th to the 17th of November, Alcalá will for another year become the
Capital of short film; a captivating show room of high-quality cinema.
