Laurencio and Amador are two elderly men in their mid to late seventies. Despite their age, they both enjoy good health. Like many others in their generation, they live their retirement years in the northern Spanish city of Leon, after a hard life of labour in the mountainside village they were born in, a mere few years before the Spanish Civil War.
Today, in the comfort of a bench located in any park of the city, they reminisce about certain events that unfolded almost seventy years ago and which, despite their apparent irrelevance when viewed from the present, have had a lasting impact in the lives of both. This common memory allows them to re-live the events in a new light, weighed against the baggage accumulated over a lifetime’s experience. The story captures life in a specific time and place: that of rural, mountainside Leon in the 1940s. However, in spite of obvious lifestyle differences between then and now, the film aims to reflect values, emotions and feelings able to transcend the passing of time and common to every place and age.
