Mississippi adolescents Ellis (Tye Sheridan) and Neckbone (Jacob Lofland) are exploring along the mighty Mississippi when they stumble upon a small island inhabited by Mud (Matthew McConaughey), a desperado who claims to be on the run from brutal bounty hunters after killing a man in Texas. According to Mud, his true love Juniper (Reese Witherspoon) is awaiting his arrival in town, and together they plan to make a daring escape. Fascinated, the two boys agree to help Mud slip past his pursuers, despite the potential dangers of doing so.

Jeff Nichols
Jeff was born in Little Rock (Arkansas) in 1978. He's an American film director and screenwriter that studied Filmmaking at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. His first feature film was 'Shotgun Stories', released in Berlin in 2007. It has been nominated to an Independent Spirit Award in 2008, won the jury's awards in Seatlle and Austin Festivals and the Fipresci Award in the Viennale 2007. His following film, 'Take Shelter', won the Critics' Week Grand Prize in Cannes 2011. All of his films feature actor Michael Shannon.
