Born in Wiesbaden, Germany, Jochen studied Fine Arts in Hamburg from 1975 to 1980. He received a DAAD grant in Rome (1981-82) and a grant from the German Academy Rome Villa Massimo (1988-89). He became a professor at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg and lives and works in Ludwigsburg, Germany.
