Carolina Vila
Carolina was born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela, where she graduated from the prestigious Universidad Católica Andrés Bello in 1994, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication with a concentration in Film and Television Production.
During her college years she wrote, produced, directed, shot and edited several short films and television shows, many of which aired on her university’s TV station.
After graduating, she worked as a radio and press journalist for several years, but her dream was to become a filmmaker. In 1997 she was awarded with a scholarship for outstanding academic achievements. She decided, in 1998, to come to the United States to obtain her graduate degree in Film Production and did so at the University of Southern California.
After having shot several student films in 16mm, 35mm and digital video, Carolina directed her own short film, “roam” which was recognized with a DGA Student Award and was a trophy winner at the 44th Rochester International Film festival. It also played at Sundance, Palm Springs and Los Angeles Latino Film Festival, among others.
Shortly after receiving her MFA in Film and Television Production, she moved back to Venezuela where she has been working as a Writer-Director and Director of Photography of TV commercials and documentaries. She has also taught Film and TV production courses at two of the most prestigious universities in Caracas.
Recently, Carolina finished her first Venezuelan short film, “Onda Corta” (Short Wave) and is ready to jump into her first feature film any day now.
