In a village on Chinese löss-plateau, a woman is sold to a farmer for a bag of sweet potatoes. Her only escape from her harsh existence is to make mud dolls and fantasize about a better life. With the seasons passing by, the situation turns from bad to worse.
Yi Zhao was born in China in 25th, March 1976. Currently he is living in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. 'On the Water' was his highly awarded graduation film (2010) from St. Joost Art and Design Academy, Breda. The film was made mainly in After Effects and Photoshop. 'Löss' is his first film after graduation.
