Silvana was born in Peru where she received her BA degree in Visual Studies. While she was still studying, she started working as a member of the scriptwriting team for a national TV broadcasting channel and after graduating, she directed her first short film "Esperanza". She also worked in Film, Television and Theatre as a writer, assistant director and improvisation theatre teacher. It was her interest in directing what brought her to London, to attend the One Year Fiction Direction Diploma Course at the National Film and Television School where she wrote, directed, produced "Resonance". While studying there, she got the opportunity to direct one of the fiction graduation films for the MA, "Ela".
