Mikal Hovland (b. 1980) grew up in Dale a small village on the west coast of Norway. In 2004 he graduated from Arts Institute at Bournemouth, England, as Cinematographer, and between 2004 and 2008 he worked in the film industry in South Africa. From 2009–2012 he studied to become a director at the National Film School of Norway (Den Norske Filmskolen), and his graduation film "Strange Fish" (2012) was shown at festivals such as Palm Springs International Film Festival and Nordic Panorama. He directs commercials for the Oslo-based production company Rollo Tomasi, and was in 2013 nominated for Young Director Award at the Cannes Lions for The Crime Scene for The Norwegian Dyslexia Association.
