Before he became the 'godfather' of American avant-garde cinema, Jonas Mekas, who had fled from Lithuania during World War II, lived in Displaced Person Camps, e.g. in Kassel-Mattenberg. During that time, he bought a lot of books and the Kassel library became his 'other home'.
