Three men are travelling along the road from Puglia to Basilicata on an oppressive grey November day. Fajele is to marry a girl who lives in a village-town known to bring ill-fortune, and is bringing with him his young brother, Nicola, and their 70-year-old father, who has recently undergone heart surgery.
