UNA CULLERA A LA BUTXACA

A Spoon in the Pocket

España. 2010. Color. 27 min. Documental. Vídeo.
  • Film Director: Mireia Ibars.
Mireia returns to Barcelona after a few years working in Paris and starts to ask questions about her grandfather's past exile in France. Grandpa told her that when he left he took a spoon. One night, there was an explosion. It seems that the spoon in his breast pocket protected him from the shrapnel. She begins to ask the members of her family about this episode, but apparently no one remembers it. For some reason, she can't abandon the search. She starts a journey that will reveal her generation's lack of awareness about the Spanish Civil War.

Mireia Ibars
Mireia was born in Lleida where the fog of the city enabled her to take refuge in a cinema. In Barcelona, the original language films and the Filmotheque made her enter in the ESCAC. She started to direct, and find friends to share shootings. When she arrived in Paris, she had a revelation working on 'L'Esquive' by Abdelatif Kechiche. She specialized herself as postproduction supervisor, which permits her to work with Miguel Bardem, Rodrigo Pla, Erik Zonca or Jean-Loup Hubert. Until the films 'Singularidades de una chica Rubia' (2009) and 'Angélica' (2010) by Manoel de Oliveira came. Therefore, she plunged into the cinema. And between this two films, she directed her first documentary 'Una cullera a la butxaca'. With this film, she comes back to Lleida.
